Flow Control Valves

Cla-Val Flow Control/Rate of Flow Control Valves prevent excessive flow by limiting flow to a preselected minimum rate, regardless of changing line pressure.  The pilot control responds to the differential pressure produced across an orifice plate installed downstream of the valve.  Accurate control is achieved as very small changes in the controlling differential pressure produce immediate corrective action of the main valve.

Cla-Val Flow Control valves are available in various configurations including the ubiquitous Model 40-01 Rate of Flow Control Valve; Model 43-01 Combination Rate of Flow Controller and Shut-Off Valve; and Model 49-01 Combination Rate of Flow and Pressure Reducing Valve.

A typical application for this type of automatic control valve is as a pressure type filter effluent control valve where a constant flow rate is maintained despite variation in head loss through the filter, or anywhere a constant rate of flow is desired.

Cla-Val 40-01 and 640-01 Rate of Flow Control Valves prevent excessive flow by limiting flow to a preselected maximum rate, regardless of changing line pressure. They are hydraulically operated, pilot controlled, diaphragm valves. The pilot control responds to the differential pressure produced across an orifice plate installed downstream of the valve. Accurate control is assured as very small changes in the controlling differential pressure produce immediate corrective action of the main valve. Flow rate adjustments are made by turning an adjusting screw on the pilot control.

Cal-Val 49-01 and 649-01 Rate of Flow and Pressure Reducing Valves automatically reduce a higher inlet pressure to a steady lower downstream pressure regardless of changing flow rate and/or varying inlet pressure, as long as the flow rate is below a preset maximum. They also prevents excessive flow by limiting flow to a preselected maximum rate using a direct acting pressure reducing pilot and a rate of flow differential control. The pressure reducing pilot is responsive to slight variations in downstream pressure and immediately controls the main valve to maintain the desired line pressure.

Cla-Val 40-25 and 640-25 Rate of Flow and Pressure Sustaining Valves automatically limit the maximum flow rate, regardless of changing line pressure or demand. It also sustains the upstream pressure to a pre-determined minimum.

Install the 40-25 or 640-25 Rate of Flow and Pressure Sustaining Valves where the water supply to a system must be limited to a preset flow to prevent lowering the supply pressure.

Cla-Val 43-01 and 643-01 Combination Rate of Flow Controller and Solenoid Shut-Off Valves limit the maximum flow rate, regardless of changing line pressure. It is a hydraulically operated, pilot controlled, diaphragm valve. On either model, the pilot control is actuated by the differential pressure produced across an orifice plate installed downstream of the valve. Accurate control is assured as very small changes in the controlling differential pressure produce immediate corrective action of the main valve. A solenoid control is provided to intercept the operation of the differential control and close the main valve.

Models 43-01 and 643-01 includes a orifice plate with a holder that should be installed one to five pipe diameters downstream of the main valve. If the check feature option is added and a pressure reversal occurs, the downstream pressure is admitted into the main valve cover chamber and the valve closes to prevent return flow.

The Cla-Val Model X52E Orifice Plate Assembly is typically used with Cla-Val flow control valves. The orifice plate is an essential component used to generate a specific, predictable pressure drop in the system.  The X52E uses a wafer design holder which offers a compact lightweight assembly that is easy to install. The X52E has a Chamfered “Inlet” side so even after installation, correct orientation can be easily verified.

We recommend installation of this assembly with the sensing port to the side of the pipeline to prevent air pockets and obstructions in the sensing line. Installation adjacent to a butterfly valve is not recommended as the orifice plate assembly may interfere with the opening of this type of valve.
